Is the Future in Your Coffee Cup?
In Turkey and other Ottoman lands, a favorite pastime in homes, restaurants and coffee houses is drinking a tiny cup of Turkish Coffee and having your fortune told from the grounds left in the cup, a practice called "Tasseography." The sediments will often form scenes, symbols, numbers and animal shapes that tell a story of what's to come.
Marlene Nice learned the practice while serving as a U.S. Diplomat in Turkey, Croatia, and North Macedonia and during her travels through other Ottoman-influenced Balkan countries. She will prepare your coffee, talk about the tradition and read your coffee grounds.
Whether you believe or not in fortune telling, it's a great way to immerse yourself in another culture and sip on some delicious coffee.
COST: $15 per person, includes coffee, personal reading and a Turkish treat.
